Gig Harbor Helps Battle Brush Fire Near Lakebay

The fire was contained by Wednesday morning after crews worked on the blaze through the night.

GIG HARBOR, WA - Residual smoke from a brush fire near Lakebay Tuesday might still be moving through the Gig Harbor area Wednesday morning. Fire crews from around Kitsap and Pierce counties, including Gig Harbor, responded to the blaze east of Lakebay near the Case Inlet.

The fire broke out Tuesday afternoon as temperatures in the region soared toward the 90-degree mark. Firefighters attacked the fire from the ground, and the state Department of Natural Resources sent a helicopter to douse the fire from the air.

The fire was contained near midnight, but was still smoldering Wednesday morning, according to Gig Harbor fire.
