Gig Harbor Firefighters Rescue Woman From Cliff: UPDATE

The woman was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

GIG HARBOR, WA - Firefighters on Thursday night enacted a high-angle rescue of a woman who had fallen some 30 feet down a cliff along the 100 block of 33rd Avenue NW, Division Chief John Johnson told Patch.com Friday morning.

The call came in near 5 p.m. Thursday night after neighbors in the area heard the woman calling for help. Gig Harbor Fire and the Pierce County Special Operations Rescue Team responded, and used ropes and a 35-foot ladder to rescue the woman. She was stranded on a ledge down the steep embankment. The entire rescue took about 2 hours.

Johnson said that falls in the area are not common, but that the steep cliffs in the area are hazardous.
