Gig Harbor Fred Meyer Grand Opening Wednesday
Gig Harbor gets a big-box grocery store upgrade on Wednesday when Fred Meyer opens.

GIG HARBOR, WA - Wednesday is the day Gig Harbor residents have been hungry for: The new Fred Meyer grocery store opens at the Olympic Towne Center along Point Fosdick Drive.
The opening date for the store has changed multiple times, but the store is definitely opening Wednesday. A Fred Meyer spokesman told Patch there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony in the produce section of the store at 9 a.m. Local elected officials and the artist who painted the in-store mural will be there. In addition, Fred Meyer will present a check to the nonprofit Food Lifeline.
The 63,000 square-foot Gig Harbor Fred Meyer will be a little smaller than other stores. The store won't sell furniture or clothes, but it will offer amenities like pizza and a bar. A Fred Meyer gas station will also be part of the development.

The opening comes just in time. About a week ago, the Main & Vine grocery store closed its doors for good. That market was operated by Kroger, which also owns Fred Meyer and QFC.
If you want to take part in the ribbon-cutting Wednesday, arrive at the store at about 8:30 a.m.
