Gig Harbor Main & Vine Closes Thursday
The specialty Gig Harbor grocery store was supposed to close Jan. 9, the day before the new Fred Meyer will open.

GIG HARBOR, WA - The beloved Main & Vine grocery store will close Thursday night, about a week sooner than originally expected. The store, according to the Tacoma News-Tribune, is closing early because of a post-Christmas sale that went better than usual.
Main & Vine, formerly a QFC, opened in 2016 as a more upscale version of a typical grocery store. The store still sold staple foods at QFC prices, but mixed in with organic vegetables and a wide array of gourmet prepared foods.
"Main & Vine, located in Gig Harbor, Washington was a unique venture for Kroger from the onset when it opened in February 2016. From the Main & Vine experience, we have learned many things about some of the best ways to provide quality, fresh and new foods to our customers. Our family of companies has already started to incorporate some of these features and unique offerings in other stores across the country, including the new Fred Meyer store opening next month in Gig Harbor," Kroger spokeswoman said in a statement to Patch in December.

Some residents like the store so much that they asked Kroger to keep it open. Hundreds of people had signed an online petition asking the company to keep Main & Vine in Gig Harbor.
The new Kroger-owned Fred Meyer is still scheduled to open Jan. 10.
