Gig Harbor Norovirus Outbreak Linked To Restaraunt Employees

GIG HARBOR, WA - A recent outbreak of norovirus in Gig Harbor has been traced to two employees at a restaurant. The outbreak was centered around The Hub restaurant at the Tacoma Narrows Airport, according to the Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department.

At least 20 people were sickened with norovirus after eating at The Hub at the end of July. The health department closed the restaurant, but allowed it to reopen once it was fully cleaned.

According to the health department's latest update, two employees reported norovirus symptoms before the outbreak. They both tested positive. Symptoms of norovirus can include vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and chills. The illness lasts up to 48 hours, but can be transmitted up to two weeks after symptoms disappear.

Norovirus is one of the most common gastrointestinal illnesses. It also extremely contagious, able to live on surfaces for weeks.

The Hub, part of Harmon Brewing Co., also has locations in Puyallup and South Hill.
