Police are asking boaters to follow four simple safety tips:

  • Stay 25 yards away from the marinas on the harbors coast to allow to dock safely.
  • Avoid lingering in the harbor's entrance, as it the entrance is already narrow and loiterers can prevent larger boats from being able to fit through.
  • When touring the harbor, take a counter-clockwise path. That way your boat will follow the currents instead of battling them.
  • Finally, wear a life jacket. It's the simplest way to help protect yourself from a deadly accident.

Police also say anyone who is interested should consider taking a boating education course to learn more about the ins and outs of boating around Gig Harbor.
