Gig Harbor Teen Falls Asleep, Crashes Near Port Orchard

PORT ORCHARD, WA - A Gig Harbor teenager fell asleep at the wheel Saturday morning and crashed along SR 16 near Port Orchard, according to Washington State Patrol.

The crash happened around 8 a.m. Saturday along SR 16 near Mullinex Road. State police identified the driver as TimiAnn Smith, 18, of Gig Harbor, and said she was driving eastbound when she fell asleep. The car veered onto the shoulder, and then Smith over-corrected and crossed both lanes and hit a guardrail.

Smith was taken to St. Anthony's for treatment, but state police said they would cite her for second-degree negligent driving.
