Gig Harbor YMCA Pools Reopen After Child's Near-Drowning

The Tom Taylor YMCA closed its pool on Saturday afternoon after the incident.

GIG HARBOR, WA - The pools at the Tom Taylor YMCA in Gig Harbor reopened Monday morning after an 8-year-old girl nearly drowned on Saturday. The girl was found "unresponsive" in a pool, according to a post on the YMCA's Facebook page.

The girl was taken to Mary Bridge Children's Hospital in Tacoma Saturday, but her current condition was unknown Monday morning.

YMCA staff and members are deeply saddened by a child who went unresponsive in our pool, and offer our heartfelt prayers to the family. The aquatics center is closed and we are working with police to investigate. We will provide an update on the girl’s condition when we receive more information.

According to reports, the girl was in an instructional pool with an adult. That pool's deepest point is 4 feet.
