Gig Harbor's Harbor Ranked Among Best In U.S.

GIG HARBOR, WA - No wonder the founders put "harbor" in the city name: Gig Harbor's harbor has been ranked one of the the 10 best in the U.S. by Coastal Living magazine. As anyone who lives here - or has ever visited - knows, it's hard to beat a sunset view of Mount Rainier over the harbor as seen from Austin Park.

Here's what Coastal Living said about Gig Harbor's harbor:

"This lovely, slightly rustic town at the south end of Puget Sound lets you stay overnight in the harbor―on a docked houseboat. Once a busy center for commercial fishing, boatbuilding, and lumber, Gig Harbor lives a quieter life these days. It draws steady recreational-boat traffic, so lots of restaurants, shops, and land-based lodging cluster within walking distance of the docks. Mount Rainier makes a glorious backdrop."

Gig Harbor came in No. 6 on the list, which includes some pretty famous harbors, such as the Patapsco River harbor in Baltimore, MD. Here's the full list:
