Great Expectations at the Community Garden
Local residents gathered at the Community Garden at Wilkinsons Farm Park to start preparing their plots for the upcoming year.
Sure signs of spring are sprouting throughout Gig Harbor, and the Community Garden at the is no exception. Eager gardeners gathered at the garden on Rosedale Street to get their hands dirty on Saturday, March 5, for the first day of the farming season. They spent the morning digging up forgotten treasures from the previous year and preparing the plot for the upcoming season.
Barb Carr of , who also heads the community gardens, said the program, which is in its third year, has expanded from 18 to 30 plots of garden on its 17-acre land. A portion of the garden is used for growing fresh vegetables and fruits for the food bank.
While there is a waiting list to use the garden, the lucky members pay a suggested donation of $30 to plant and tend their crops for the season.
