Museum Searches for Next Iconic Image of Gig Harbor

The Harbor History Museum will be holding a photo contest to search for the next iconic image of Gig Harbor.

The announced Friday that it will begin the “Harbor Photo Hunt,” a search for the next iconic image of the Harbor. The Museum is encouraging photographers of all ages to submit their unique photos of Gig Harbor, capturing what defines “Gig Harbor” for them. The first place photograph will be used by the Museum Store and in marketing efforts for the Harbor History Museum.

According to marketing manager Alyssa Taylor, one of its volunteers and student Scott Greenfield is heading up the contest. After helping in the Museum Store on Sunday mornings, he said he wanted to do more for the community.

“I just wanted to find a way to get the community and the Museum more connected,” said Greenfield. “Everyone has their favorite part of Gig Harbor, so why not ask people to capture that special spot and have it honored at the Museum forever?”

The contest is sponsored by Gig Harbor’s newest public painting studio, Uncorked Canvas. The hunt begins on Friday, July 1, and the Museum will be accepting entries until Monday, Aug.15.

A board of reviewers will evaluate the photos to narrow down the top 10 entries, which will be on display in the Museum throughout the month of September. During this time, the community and museum visitors will be able to vote on their favorite photographs. The Museum will announce the winner on Oct. 1. Entry limited to one photograph per person.
