Old Goodwill to Stay Open Until Moving Day
In a change from its original plan, the Gig Harbor Goodwill on Pt. Fosdick Drive will remain open right up until the June 23 opening of its new store in the Olympic Shopping Center.

In a change from its original plan, the on Pt. Fosdick Drive NW will remain open right up until the opening of its in the Olympic Village Shopping Center in late June, the non-profit announced Monday.
The old store was expected to close in late May, leaving it βdarkβ for nearly a month before the new storeβs grand opening on June 23. Now, plans call for the store to close on June 22.
Goodwill is moving from its current location of nearly 10 years in order to make way for Safewayβs redevelopment of its Pt. Fosdick Square shopping mall. is already underway. After itβs completed later this year, the existing strip mall will be demolished to build a new destination shopping center that will include a Kohlβs department store.

Goodwill was able to reschedule the current storeβs closing date with the cooperation of Safeway executives.
βWe are sincerely grateful to Safeway β the decision allows us to receive the maximum support we can for our job training and placement programs with the help of shoppers and donors,β said Terry Hayes, president and CEO of Tacoma Goodwill, which oversees the Gig Harbor store. βWe wonβt go dark at all in this time when donations and purchases can make all the difference for people looking for that first job or that second chance.β

The Gig Harbor Goodwill is moving into 14,000 square feet of space located at the north end of Olympic Village at 5500 Olympic Drive NW. It has already opened an attended donation station adjacent to the new site.
There will be a series of βclosingβ sales at its Pt. Fosdick location prior to the move as well as a grand opening sale when Goodwill opens for business at its new location.
