Police Investigate Threat Against Harbor Ridge Middle School

A Harbor Ridge Middle School student found the threat on social media late Tuesday night, according to Gig Harbor police.

GIG HARBOR, WA - Gig Harbor police late Tuesday night investigated a possible threat against Harbor Ridge Middle School. A student found the threat on social media and reported it to her parents, who in turn reported it to police.

Police discovered that the threat was made by a 13-year-old boy living in Georgia. Gig Harbor police contacted police near the boy, and he admitted to them he sent the threatening message. However, the threat was deemed not credible by Gig Harbor police.

Gig Harbor police did not reveal the contents of the message.

"We take all matters of this sort seriously and will investigate them to our fullest potential to keep our community and schools safe. Our communication with the Peninsula School District remains highly effective and responsive. We commend the Gig Harbor student who immediately came forth with information about the threat that she had received which led to the successful resolution of the situation," Gig Harbor police Chief Kelly Busey said in a statement.
