Possible 'Corrosive Material' Triggers Gig Harbor Hazmat Response

Fire crews from around Pierce County assembled in Gig Harbor late Thursday afternoon to investigate a possible hazmat situation.

GIG HARBOR, WA — Five 55-gallon drums containing "possible corrosive material" triggered a hazmat response involving fire departments from across Pierce County on Thursday.

Graham Fire & Rescue tweeted preliminary information just after 6 p.m. while crews were en route to the scene. A spokesman for the department said multiple agencies were headed to 54th Avenue and Bujacich Road, near a septic facility located between Gig Harbor High School and McCormick Forest Park.

Information on exactly where the drums were located, or whether any spillage occurred, was not immediately available.
