Reminder: Gig Harbor Hearing On Religious, Holiday Objects In City Parks
The Parks Commission will hold a hearing about placing religious and other types of objects in city parks on Wednesday.

GIG HARBOR, WA - The Parks Commission is hosting a public hearing Wednesday night about whether the city should allow religious or holiday-themed objects on public land.
The city is holding the public hearing after the Wisconsin-based Freedom From Religion organization threatened to sue the city if it allowed a nativity scene in Donkey Creek Park. The city had allowed private citizens to erect a nativity scene at the park since 2008, but, due to the legal threat, decided not to allow the nativity during the 2016 Christmas season.
The Parks Commission will hear comments from the public on the matter at the Jan. 4 meeting, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall. The commission had been accepting written comments; those will be forwarded to the Parks Commission members before Wednesday's meeting.
