Apple madness is just around the corner, folks! No, we are not talking the infamous Apple Cup, but REAL apples. You need not drive east to find some great apples and apple activities. Come along for an apple tour (and yes, you will be hungry).

So, how do you like them apples?

For us, it's apple pie, apple crisp, applesauce, apple cider, apple muffins....Or how about just biting into a fresh, just picked, extra crisp and extra juicy apple?

Why here: This beautiful orchard is the apple of University Place's eye. The annual apple squeeze delights locals and is a community maintstay. This year's festivities in apple cider making will be held on Sunday, September 11th from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM. See the link above for all the details around this terrific event.

Steilacoom Apple Cider Squeeze (Steilacoom):

Why here: Another great annual event for the town of Steilacoom that attracts folks from nearby Lakewood and University Place. Apple presses and apple products will be available for sale. This year's festivities take place on the first Sunday in October from 10 a.m. to  p.m. Check the website noted above for details.

Anderson Island Apple Squeeze (Anderson Island):

Why here: Looking for a little adventure? Why not hop on the ferry in Steilacoom and take a super short ferry ride over to Anderson Island this fall to the historic and beautiful Johnson Farm? This landmark location does an apple squeeze each fall. Take in the sights of the island for a perfect day trip (or stay overnight in one of the great house rentals or B&B's). The date and time of the squeeze is still being determined. Check the link above for more details as we get into September.

Terry's Berries (Puyallup):

Why here: We know. This one is more of a drive, but we just have to mention it. This longtime organic farm is well known for their apples and offer apple harvesting (and an apple squeeze) to tour groups and visitors. Many local schoolchildren from all over Pierce County have toured this terrific farm. You should too! Check out their website (click on the link above) to get the scoop on everything apple.

Tacoma's Farmer's Markets (Tacoma area--see link), Gig Harbor Farmer's Market (Gig Harbor), Proctor Farmer's Market (in Tacoma and now year 'round) and Steilacoom Farmer's Market:

Why here: Can't make it to an apple squeeze or a farm (whether it's local or not)? No worries! We are surrounded by wonderful farmer's markets that continue selling their goods into the cooler and crisper days to come. They will have lots of yummy apples for you to buy and enjoy. Keep an eye on the websites noted above for information about when the apples will be coming in to your nearby market.
