Accomplishment: On March 13, Natalee's mom, Maggie, suffered a seizure and lost consciousness while visiting her sister in Bonney Lake. Natalee, a kindergartener at Artondale, quickly realized something was wrong with her mom. She dashed to a neighbor's home to get help and called 911. Natalee said she ran out without even putting on her shoes.

On Wednesday, April 6, Fire Chief John Burgess of presented Natalee with a Good Samaritan Award during Artondale's monthly awards ceremony.

Prevention Specialist Nanette Tatom at the fire department recently learned about Natalee's brave accomplishment while visiting the schools. She said Natalee's quick thinking showed incredible courage--especially going to a stranger's home at night in an unfamiliar neighborhood.

"She's a real hero," Burgess said.

Key to Awesomeness: Natalee said she was nervous but knew exactly what to do, thanks to the fire safety program she learned at preschool.

According to the fire department, Natalee attended Providence Christian Preschool last year where her teacher, Ebba Jacobson, taught the class how to recognize when there is an emergency. Her students also learned how to get help and call 911 as part of the preschool fire safety program offered by Gig Harbor Fire & Medic One.
