Cowlitz County Habitat for Humanity takes on its biggest housing project yet (tri-cityherald.com) ā A 16-home affordable housing neighborhood is planned for Church Street in Kelso on the former Kelso High School site, backed by more than $16,000 in new fundraising. Cowlitz County Habitat for Humanity will select income-qualified families, who contribute sweat equity and receive affordable mortgages, with construction expected to roll out a few homes per year.

2. Gluesenkamp Perez Announces Mobile Office Hours in Cowlitz County (house.gov) ā Southwest Washington residents, including those in Kelso, can get in-person help with federal agencies when Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez's team holds mobile office hours in Ryderwood on October 7. If you can't make it, you can still reach her staff online, by phone, or by visiting the Kelso office for assistance with benefits, tax issues, and more.

3. Man struck, killed by train near Kelso on Tuesday night (katu.com) ā A man was struck and killed by a northbound BNSF train Tuesday night near Kelso, in the 1100 block of Wood Avenue. Kelso police and Cowlitz 2 Fire & Rescue found him deceased at the scene, and the county coroner is working to identify him and notify family.

4. 2A GSHL Mark Morris/Hockinson/Washougal @ RA Long 2026 - Results (Raw) (milesplit.com) ā Kelso Middle School runners turned in strong performances at Thursday's 2A GSHL cross country meet at R.A. Long, with multiple boys and girls placing near the front of their 2,500-meter races. The results list every Kelso MS finisher and time, so families and classmates can quickly see how local athletes stacked up against Woodland, Hockinson, Monticello, Mt. Solo and others.

Longview trash, recycling bills could near $50 a month (tri-cityherald.com) ā Longview's trash and recycling bills are projected to climb from about $28 to roughly $50 a month by 2028 as the city shifts to state-regulated rates with Waste Control. While Kelso isn't changing rates in this story, its historically similar contract is cited as a reason Longview's current prices have stayed unusually low.
