3 Earthquakes Detected In Kirkland: USGS

The tiny earthquakes have rumbled under Kirkland over the past few days, according to seismologists.

KIRKLAND, WA - A series of tiny earthquakes have been detected underneath Kirkland in recent days, according to seismologists at the Pacific Northwest Seismic Network. The quakes have all hit in different locations between Moss Bay and north of the downtown area.

The first quake, a magnitude 1.5, was detected on March 1 at about 4:30 p.m. On March 3, a magnitude 1.4 was detected in the downtown area near Peter Kirk Park. On March 6, another magnitude 1.4 was detected in a neighborhood near the intersection of 6th Street and 13th Avenue.

Earthquakes with a magnitude in the 1.5 range can't usually be felt by humans - indeed, the PNSN did not collect any reports from locals who felt the quake. For context, the famous Marshawn Lynch "Beast Quake" of 2011 was equivalent to an earthquake with a magnitude between 1 and 3.
