5 Lake Washington Students Earn National Merit Scholarships
Only 3,200 students across the U.S. earned National Merit scholarships in 2017. Five of them are Lake Washington students.

KIRKLAND, WA - Five students from the Lake Washington School District earned National Merit scholarships, the organization announced today. The scholarships are worth between $500 and $2,000 per year for each student. In addition to the scholarship money, the National Merit scholarship indicates that a student has reached an extraordinary level of academic achievement.
Here are the students from across the Lake Washington district that earned the scholarships:
- Hunter Trewin, Lake Washington H.S. – National Merit University of Alabama Scholarship
- Stephen Fitch, Jr., Tesla STEM H.S. – National Merit Carleton College Scholarship
- Martin Randal, Redmond H.S. – National Merit Vanderbilt University Scholarship
- Samantha Moynihan, Eastlake H.S. – National Merit University of Southern California Scholarship
- Siri Mellem, Redmond H.S. – National Merit St. Olaf College Scholarship
