Thursday, November 19, 2015 6:30 - 8 pm Kirkland Arts Center Gallery
Delve into the historical context and formal properties of three art movements that addressed the tumultuous 20th century. First, we will analyze two responses to the destruction and loss suffered during World War I, when artists asked important questions about mankind’s ability to trust their own logic and reason. Second, we will discuss how the United States’ involvement in Vietnam and the Cold War in the 1960s may have contributed to the emergence of Minimalism.
KAC provides informative presentations by historians, artists, and lecturers on art, culture, and history. Drop-ins welcome, preregistration helpful. A discount is available for those who sign up for all four lectures. See our website for more info http://www.kirklandartscenter.org.
