Art & Culture Series at the Kirkland Arts Center - Biblical Heroines: Women in Art

Informative presentations by historians, artists and lecturers. Drops- ins welcome, pre-registration is helpful

November 6, 2014 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. - This lecture is a continuation of the Redressing the Nude series. Biblical Heroines will explore several questions regarding the lives of women in the medieval period (5th - 12th century).

Who were the biblical heroines depicted during the Early Christian and Medieval art? Do their spiritual roles reflect the perception of women in Medieval society? How does the dichotomy of the Virgin Mary and Evil Eve play out? Judith, Mary Magdalene, and Hildegard of Bingen are but a few more of the women that will be discussed. Can we understand the lives of women during this time period by looking at images of art? Come and find out for yourself. Hosted and led by Katrina Casprowiak

Location: Kirkland Arts Center Gallery
