Bluesman Ayron Jones & Band Bringing Facebook Contest to KPC Friday

Ayron Jones plays the blues like a seasoned veteran and is competing to open for Bruce Springsteen.

I AM FASCINATED by the many ways in which the digital internet world leaks into our physical reality.  For example, local businesses regularly post stickers on their doors that read “Like us on Facebook”; local bookstores often shelve books that are also for sale on Amazon.com; and newscasters begin and end their broadcast with statements like “follow us on Twitter for streaming news updates.”

In yet another fascinating example, the has added a last minute concert for this Friday Night – April 20 – that will feature the local rock guitarist Ayron Jones and his band, The Way, beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Jones is in the running to win a Facebook contest to perform as the opening act for Bruce Springsteen.

The 25-year-old Ayron is a young performer with old-school experience: he can make a room sexy like Muddy Waters’ “Mannish Boy,” while also jamming with the ferocity of Stevie Ray Vaughan.  Jones’s music is often described as a mixed cocktail of alternative rock, hip-hop and gospel, with a garnish twist of Buddy Guy, Albert King and Vaughan.

He is competing, along with other bands, for the chance to play at Hard Rock Calling this July in London's historic Hyde Park.  The top 10 bands from this round as determined by fan voting will be judged by a panel of musicians and music industry insiders.   Those insiders will then select one band to play Hard Rock Calling.

And Jones not only has the skill, but also the drive, to win the Facebook challenge.  He and his band performed eight (8!) concerts last weekend alone, and he'll be performing this weekend and early next week as well (see www.ajandtheway.com for details). So come out this Friday and support our next local legend.
