GARAGE SALES are an old and new hobby of mine. I started to really gear up when I had a 2-year-old and was a stay-athome mommie. A pal of mine would pile in with snacks for the kids about 9 a.m. on a Friday starting in May, maybe April if the weather provided less rain than more.
We loved to hit the ground running and go around our neighborhood. Nothing more we loved than a sign that said HUGE garage sale, or MULTI FAMILY garage sale. That verbage was golden and we became giddy!! I would get a little groovy and "visualize" a picnic basket we needed. Or a brand new Under Armor shirt for the boys for 5 bucks. Yippee, we felt we had won 500 bucks.
As the kids aged we started including them in the purchases. But be careful Kirklandites, that can be a slippery slope. You may end up with way too many plastic toys as you pull into the driveway. However, the kids are so in love with you they are putty in your hands for chores.

Now I do have say something about signs to these garage sales. If you put up a sign for your garage sale please, please go and TAKE DOWN the sign on after your sale is over. There is nothing worse than bad signage. I hate to follow a couple of signs and then wander around never figuring out where the heck the sale is? Bad form!
Also, not to nag but, if you are putting on a garage/yard sale, please price the items so you want them to leave your property. The retail price is never going to happen at a garage sale honey. I have had a garage sale or two and I had a moment haggling over a tiny picnic table my sweet husband made. I should have sold it but.... I wanted too much for it, it finally decayed in the backyard and we sent it to the dump.

So much to think about with garage sales!
