Identity Of Kirkland Boy Killed In Safeway Parking Lot Released
The 3-year-old was hit by a car at the 100th Ave NE Safeway around noon on Thursday.
KIRKLAND, WA — A toddler died Thursday afternoon after he was hit by a car while in the Safeway parking lot along 100th Ave. Northeast, according to police.
On Friday afternoon, the King County Medical Examiner identified the boy as Logan Da Silva Miranda, 3. He died of blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled an accident.
The incident happened around noon, and police believe Miranda may have walked out from between two cars into the parking lot. The incident is under investigation, but police said the driver was cooperative and didn’t show signs of impairment.

“Fire and Paramedic Units worked tirelessly to save the three-year-old boy's life, but despite their efforts, the child passed away on scene due to his injuries,” police said in a statement.
Pedestrian injury or death in parking lots is very common, according to the National Safety Council. Some 60,000 people are injured and 500 die in parking lot collisions each year. And many crashes are caused by distracted drivers — although there is no evidence that was the cause in the Kirkland incident.
