KIRKLAND, WA — One person is dead after a van careened into a wall and caught fire on an Interstate 405 off-ramp Tuesday morning. Troopers said the van initially hit a car driving northbound on I-405, then sped away from the scene, taking the exit to Northeast 128th Street. The van drove continued through an intersection and crashed into a wall, bursting into flames shortly before 11 a.m. Troopers said the driver of the van died at the scene. The driver of the first car was not injured.

All lanes of I-405 reopened shortly after 11:30 a.m. but ramps to Northeast 128th were closed until almost 4 p.m. Kirkland Police also closed portions of Northeast 128th and Totem Lake Boulevard as the investigation continued, but all roads have reopened. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
