Drunk Man Breaks Into Kirkland High School, Arrested By Police Training There

A drunk man broke into Lake Washington High School Wednesday night. Unluckily, Kirkland and Redmond police were inside training their K9s.

KIRKLAND, WA - A training session for Kirkland and Redmond police turned into the real thing on Wednesday night.

Officers from the two departments were inside Lake Washington High School training their K9s when they received a report of a burglar alarm at the school. The police and a private security guard tracked the source of the alarm to the cafeteria. Inside, they found an intoxicated man drinking a beer, Kirkland police Corp. Cody Mann told Patch.com.

Lucky that the police had their K9s with them: when the man realized police were there, he tried to flee. Kirkland Officer Daniel Hopkins released his German shepherd K9, Thor; when the suspect realized the K9 was on his tail, he immediately stopped. Mann said that Thor was about to bite the suspect, but Hopkins was able to command the dog to heel just in time.

The suspect told police that he had attended the high school 20 years ago, and he just wanted to come back for a visit.

The suspect was taken into custody for trespassing and brought to a local hospital to detox. Police don't know how he got into the school, but suspect he might have had access through an unlocked door.
