Working from the model, this course will improve observational skills in rendering the portrait. All the principles of drawing including contour, value, volume, perspective, proportion and composition will be covered and applied to drawing of portrait. We will use principles of light and shade to focus on and define the individual structural forms of the head and will apply this knowledge to life sized head studies. This approach will allow students to achieve a greater understanding of the fundamental elements used to create an accurate likeness and a more solid drawing. To deepen the appreciation and understanding of the students, some examples of the masters will be studied also. No prerequisites. Supply list available online.
