Google Plans April 4 Return To Seattle, Kirkland Offices

KIRKLAND, WA — Google will bring its Washington employees back to a hybrid work model in early April, marking the latest major employer to shift away from fully-remote work plans as the omicron surge wanes and states across the nation relax their remaining COVID-19 restrictions.

Google announced Wednesday that most workers in Seattle and Kirkland will work in the office two or three days a week, beginning April 4, more than two years after the company implemented broad work from home measures.

Company leaders said they would use March to help employees transition into their new routines and be fully prepared for a hybrid work model by early next month. Google said it designed its return to office model based on employee feedback with a goal of maximizing flexibility while "facilitating the innovation, collaboration and camaraderie of our in-office experiences."

Like other tech employers, like Microsoft, Google said teams will work out their individual plans and employees will retain flexible options like "work from anywhere weeks" and fully remote work plans as possible. Employees can also choose to work from the office more often, and some roles may require more than three days per week, the company said.
