Juanita Beach Opens After Bacteria Levels Recede

The swimming area at Juanita Beach was closed for nearly two weeks due to elevated fecal bacteria levels.

KIRKLAND, WA - Local swimmers can start enjoying Juanita Beach Park again. After a nearly two-week closure, the swimming area was reopened Wednesday after fecal bacteria levels were found to have receded below harmful levels, according to King County.

The swimming area was closed Aug. 10 after tests showed harmful levels of bacteria. The city placed signs around the park warning humans and animals to stay out of the water. King County conducts weekly tests of local beaches for contaminants. Juanita Beach will be tested again on Monday.

"Recent samples have had low fecal coliform concentrations. The beach will next be sampled on Monday Aug. 28 as part of our regular weekly swimming beach monitoring," the county reported Wednesday.
