Kirkland Council Picks Amy Walen Replacement

27 Kirkland residents applied to replace Walen, who left the city to serve in the state House.

KIRKLAND, WA - The Kirkland City Council on Tuesday night picked Houghton Community Council member Kelli Curtis to replace former Mayor Amy Walen.

Curtis was one of 27 people who applied to replace Walen, who left the city after being elected to the state House in November. Curtis will serve until the November election, and can run to keep the seat for a full term.

“I am honored to have been chosen by the City Council to serve the Kirkland community,” Curtis said in a statement. “I look forward to joining my new colleagues in continuing to make this community a wonderful place to live, work and play.”
