Kirkland May Approve Salary Increase, Employment Agreement With City manager

The council will consider an employment agreement and 7.2 percent increase on Tuesday for City Manager Kurt Triplett.

KIRKLAND, WA - One of the first pieces of business in front of the City Council in 2017 will be a new employment agreement and salary increase for City Manager Kurt Triplett.

At Tuesday's meeting, Council will consider a new agreement with Triplett that includes a 7.2 percent salary increase to $200,000. Much of his employment agreement, however, will remain the same as the one approved in January 2016. The council ratifies a new employment agreement each year, Mayor Amy Walen said.

In deciding whether to renew the employment agreement with Triplett, the council looked at several of his 2016 accomplishments: he hired a new city attorney, police chief, fire chief, and parks director; implemented the 2015-16 City Work Plan; developed the 2017-18 city budget; led a steering team charged with upgrading fire facilities; and developed a capital improvement plan through 2022, among other work.
