Kirkland PD Say Woman Tried To Kidnap Toddler At Bridle Trails

Police say a woman walking in Bridle Trails with her grandson was hit in the head by a woman who ran off with the boy. He was unharmed.

KIRKLAND, WA – A day in the park with her mother and two young children turned into a parent's nightmare when a woman tried to kidnap one of her children. It happened around noon in Bridle Trails State Park.

Kirkland police say that a woman had gone to the park with her mother, her two-and-a-half-year-old boy and two-month-old baby.

As the grandmother walked with the boy, a woman came up behind her, hit her in the head, and ran off with boy.

The mother, who had been in the car with the baby, saw the woman running with her boy. The boy's grandmother chasing after them.

She ran out of the car over to the woman and managed to get her son back.

The woman fled.

Around this time a police officer on routine patrol arrived on scene and was filled in.

At this point the would-be abductor, who police say is a 33-year-old known to them, remeerged.

Police say that she may be suffering from mental illness and is currently living out of her car.

She was taken into custody without incident.

The investigation continues.
