Kirkland Pet Owners Now Register With City Animal Services

KIRKLAND, WA - After more than a year of preparation, the City’s new Animal Services Program begins next week. As of January 2, 2018, Kirkland residents who have not previously licensed their pets will be able to purchase licenses either online, through the mail or in person at City Hall or at the Kirkland Justice Center.

For pets previously registered through Regional Animal Services of King County and whose tags are still valid, the City of Kirkland will send renewal notices one month prior to the current tag expiration. Those pets will be licensed in Kirkland going forward. All pet license fees will go directly to Kirkland’s Animal Services Program.

This new program will provide better service for Kirkland residents and their pets. The City now has a dedicated Animal Control Officer. This is a limited commissioned officer who has been hired and trained to professionally provide education and enforcement about animal concerns and regulations, and who will be able to return lost pets to the owners identified on their pet license or through a chip.
