Kirkland Rep. DelBene Will Attend Donald Trump Inauguration
Some Washington Democrats are planning to skip Trump's inauguration.

KIRKLAND, WA - U.S. Rep. Suzan DelBene, D-Kirkland, will be in attendance at the inauguration of president-elect Donald Trump on Friday - but she'll also attend a large rally seen as a show of force against Trump on Saturday.
A number of Democrats are planning to skip Trump's inauguration. Seattle's Pramila Jayapal is boycotting and will spend Friday in her district with immigrant constituents. Bellevue's Adam Smith is missing the inauguration, but he says it's not necessarily in protest of Trump - he'd just prefer to be in-district with his family and constituents.
Spokeswoman Ramsey Cox told Patch.com that DelBene wants to support a peaceful transition of power. But she's also attending the Women's March on Washington on Saturday to "ensure the president elect knows the women of our country will be watching if he tries to enact policy that's bad for women and families."

A number of Democrats planning to boycott the event have pointed to Trump's recent feud with U.S. Rep. John Lewis, D-GA, as a reason why. Lewis said that Trump was not legitimately elected, and in turn Trump said on Twitter that the Georgia Congressman, who was brutally beaten during a 1965 civil rights march, was all talk and "no action."
"The Congresswoman agrees with President Obama that we need to work toward a peaceful transition of power in order to advance our democracy," Ramsey wrote to Patch.com in an email. "Even if we don’t like who was elected to serve as President, we can still show respect for the office. But that doesn’t mean she will compromise when it comes to protecting our country’s core values of equality, justice and access to opportunity for every American, no matter your gender, ethnicity, age, religion or sexual orientation."
