Broken Fiber Caused Kirkland Network Outage

The problem was affecting services Wednesday morning at City Hall and the Kirkland Justice Center, but was fixed by the evening.

KIRKLAND, WA — Some city of Kirkland services were being impacted Wednesday morning by a network outage affecting City Hall and the Kirkland Justice Center. The outage was caused by a broken strand of fiber, city officials said.

The outage was resolved by around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, according to city officials. King County, Renton, and Bellevue were also affected by

During the day Wednesday, services like utility billing and permitting were hampered by the outage. Clerks at City Hall were still processing bill payments and other fees, but could only provide paper receipts.

It's still possible to pay bills and other fees at City Hall, but clerks will be issuing paper receipts, which might take longer to process.

"We appreciate your patience while we work to resolve these issues," Deputy Director of IT Smitha Krishnan said in a statement Wednesday.
