Police Investigate Attempted Carjacking, Shooting In Kirkland
Kirkland Police are still searching for a man who tried to carjack a car and shot its driver in the Juanita area Thursday night.
KIRKLAND, WA — The Kirkland Police Department is asking for the public's help after a man was shot Thursday night during an attempted carjacking in the Juanita neighborhood. Police said the incident began around 6 p.m. The shooting victim told police he was approached by a man he did not know while sitting in his car on the 10700 block of Northeast 143rd Place.
Police said the driver got out of his car, and the suspect pointed a gun at him, demanding he be driven to a park and ride. The driver locked himself inside the car but was shot in the arm. The victim ran away from the vehicle and last saw the suspect heading southbound on-foot, disappearing near the intersection of Northeast Juanita-Woodinville Drive and 108th Avenue Northeast.
According to Kirkland Police, more than 40 officers, two police K9s and a Washington State Patrol aircraft searched for the suspect into the night, but he was not found.

The victim described the shooting suspect as a black man in his 40s, between 6 feet 1 and 6 feet 2 inches tall, with a slim build. Police said he was dressed in a green hooded poncho or raincoat and had some white in his hair.
Detectives are looking to speak to neighbors living within a five-block radius of the incident and collect any home surveillance that may be helpful. Investigators are also seeking anyone who traveled along Juanita-Woodinville Drive, or near the Brickyard park and ride and the North Kirkland park and ride Thursday evening.

“Because of the heavy police presence and diligent search last evening we do not believe that there is any immediate danger to the public at this time, and neighbors should feel free to return to their usual activities," Chief Cheri Harris said in a statement.
"We do encourage anyone that has information that could be helpful in finding the suspect to come forward and speak with our detectives. This includes sharing residential video footage, dash cam footage, and reporting any suspicious or abandoned vehicles in the neighborhood.”
