Teens Begin Crime Spree In Kirkland With Beating, Carjacking Of Elderly Woman

KIRKLAND, WA - A group of teens who beat and carjacked an elderly woman in Kirkland this week were arrested in Renton Thursday after robbing a Best Buy store in Issaquah, according to Kirkland police. The five teens - four girls and one boy - are all under age 18 and are now facing charges ranging from first-degree robbery to trafficking in stolen property.

Just before 10 a.m. Wednesday, a woman in her 70s was approached by four teen girls inside the Peter Kirk Municipal Parking Garage. The four teens threw the elderly woman to the ground "several times," police said, and then stole her car and wallet. The woman suffered abrasions and bruising as a result of the attack.

On Thursday morning, Kirkland police learned that the victim's car had been used in a shoplifting incident at the Best Buy store in Issaquah. Five teens entered the Best Buy, grabbed a bunch of merchandise, and then fled in the victim's car.

A short time later, a Washington State Patrol trooper spotted the car at a Renton pawn shop. The five teens had pawned the stolen items and were leaving the pawn shop when they were confronted by police. The five teens ran away, and officers from Renton and Bellevue responded and were able to track them all down.

The four teen girls admitted to carjacking the elderly woman in Renton and stealing her credit cards, police said; and all five admitted to taking part in the shoplifting at the Issaquah Best Buy. They were arrested on charges of first-degree robbery, first-degree theft, ad trafficking in stolen property.
