“I-1351 would let school districts increase local property taxes by $1.9 billion through 2019.”
WPC is projecting the local property tax increase needed to build sufficient additional classrooms to give each new I-1351 funded teacher he/her own classroom. That projection is both unnecessary and deliberately misleading, as there’s nothing in I-1351 that requires each of these new teachers have his/her own classroom or that gives school districts authority to raise funds they can’t already raise. Indeed, the initiative goes so far as to outline alternative ways to bring the educational support services into existing classrooms of districts without sufficient classroom space.
WPC is using a scurrilous & fictitious argument about raising local property taxes to frighten voters into opposing the initiative. They should be ashamed.
