Writing Haiku: A Goal Setting Workshop

A free class by Michael Dylan Welch at the Kirkland Library. Tuesday, April 28th, 6:30pm.

Haiku are brief poems of personal experience. What do you shoot for when you write them? This class explores the targets to aim for, and why 5-7-5 is not necessarily one of them. Learn why 5-7-5 is something of a haiku urban myth, and why other techniques such as season words and two-part structure are better targets to aim for when writing haiku. The workshop will include writing exercises and Q&A. Join Michael Dylan Welch, poet laureate of Redmond, for this free program celebrating National Poetry Month. No registration necessary. For ages 12 and up.
