Man Dies After Lakewood Parking Lot Shootout

The shooting happened Tuesday afternoon in the parking lot of a bar along South Tacoma Way.

LAKEWOOD, WA - One person is dead after a shootout between two cars in Lakewood this afternoon. The shooting happened along South Tacoma Way just after 2 p.m. police said. They found a minivan crashed nearby, and inside there was a dead man, police said.

Police believe that only two vehicles were involved in the shootout, which began at approximately 2:12 p.m. along the 8900 block of South Tacoma Way. Witnesses told police that the shooting broke out in the parking lot of the Hammertime Bar and Grill, which is located at the southwest corner of the intersection of South Tacoma Way and Steilacoom Boulevard Southwest.

The victim's vehicle crashed a short distance away near the intersection of 87th Street Southwest and Durango Street, according to police, which is behind a large shopping plaza. The victim was the passenger in the vehicle, and the driver may have fled the scene, police said.

Police say the shooting began in the parking lot of the Hammertime Bar and Grill. The other vehicle involved fled the scene, but was stopped in Parkland by Pierce County Sheriff's deputies.

There were no other injuries, but a bystander's car was hit by gunfire, police said. Lakewood police are still investigating what caused the shooting.
