LAKEWOOD, WA — A 26-year-old man has been arrested and is being booked for two counts of murder in the first degree after his grandparents were found dead in a burned home.

Pierce County Sheriff's Deputies say their investigation started Sunday night around 8:30 p.m. when neighbors reported a house on fire in the 18800 block of Bayview Road NW near Vaughn.

The Key Peninsula Fire Department was called to the house and quickly got control of the fire, but as firefighters cleared the home they found two dead bodies in the basement.

After a short investigation deputies learned that three people lived in the home, an elderly couple in their 70s and their 26-year-old grandson. Deputies say the bodies belonged to the couple, but the grandson and the couple's car had both vanished.

Around 4 a.m. the next morning deputies found the missing car parked outside a Lakewood apartment complex. Investigators say they knew the grandson's girlfriend's mother lived in the same complex, so they called in the SWAT team to clear the area and arrest the grandson.
