24,000 Acre Fire At JBLM Training Facility Near Yakima Contained

The "400 Fire" broke out last Wednesday at the Yakima Training Center.

YAKIMA, WA - Joint Base Lewis-McChord officials are reporting that the 400 Fire burning at the Yakima Training Facility is now more than 90 percent contained. At its peak on Saturday, the fire was burning across an area of about 24,000 acres. JBLM officials do no yet know what caused the fire, but there was no live-fire training at the facility when the fire broke out.

Fire crews from across Washington helped battle the fire. One firefighter did sustain a minor injury during firefighting operations.

"Given the extreme fire behavior we dealt with over the past three days, and the rugged terrain YTC and the IMT-3 team had to deal with, we are proud of how safely and effectively this dangerous fight was conducted," Yakima Training Center commander Lt. Col. Jarret Mathews said.
