Plan For 'Multi-Day' I-5 Closure After Amtrak Derailment
WSDOT and Washington State Patrol are recommending alternate routes around the Amtrak crash scene in DuPont.

DUPONT, WA - The Amtrak derailment in DuPont will keep southbound I-5 closed all day Monday, according to Washington State Patrol, and perhaps for several more days. The train derailed at the Mounts Road overpass just before 8 a.m. Monday and crashed onto the highway.
"[A]ll I-5 SB lanes at Mounts Rd. will be shut down for entire day," state patrol wrote on Twitter.
WSDOT is recommending three routes around the crash for those that must drive Monday.

- Take SR 16 toward Gig Harbor and take SR 302 west at Purdy. Then take SR 3 south through Shelton and to Highway 101 south.
- Exit I-5 in either Tacoma or Lakewood to get on SR 7 and then take SR 507 south toward Yelm. In Yelm, take SR 510 west toward Lacey.
- Through Joint Base Lewis-McChord along Center Drive to SR 510.
From the Seattle area, WSDOT is recommending that commuters use ferries to get across Puget Sound to travel southbound.
DuPont: This SB I-5 closure is a huge pinch point. Expect all alt routes to have heavy traffic. Here is one alternative that might work for you if you must drive. #I5MountsTrain pic.twitter.com/Yn4ZFBe9md
