This initiative represents the only opportunity to cast your vote.

The 100 days to get it done began Sept.3rd.  Since then, 23 volunteers have joined the team to gather signatures.  The story has been carried on The Suburban Times (http://www.thesubtimes.com/2011/09/06/amtrak-initiative-begins/), Lakewood Patch (), Tacoma News Tribune (http://www.thenewstribune.com/2011/09/11/1820110/man-pushes-to-keep-high-speed.html), KING 5 TV (http://www.king5.com/news/Lakewood-residents-upset-about-proposed--129596458.html), and Seattle P-I (http://www.seattlepi.com/news/article/Lakewood-man-leads-fight-against-Amtrak-line-2166964.php).

The stakes are high; the consequences are forever; and of critical importance is who should decide.

We have this moment, and that’s it:  Dum spiro, spero – “while I breathe I hope” – part of the  South Carolina state motto.  When these 100 days end it’s over.

“A living dog,” a philosopher wrote, “is better than a dead lion.”

A roar silenced is trumped by a barking dog.

Signature-gatherers are like the pertinacious, stubbornly persevering, endlessly fetching, indefatigable dog.  And we will have them to thank for seizing the moment, giving the rest of our city a voice.

In the meantime be sure to run a single sheet of paper through your printer twice so as to ensure you capture both the front and back of the petition on a single sheet of paper as is required.

Also attached is our Neighborhood News for September, very time-sensitive information that should be of interest not only to Tillicum but the greater Lakewood community.
