Level 2 sex offender sues victim's family for blog. Really? Let's talk about that.
Instead of writing about the weather and the inappropriate attire teenage girls are wearing as a result of a sexually driven media and unrealistic ideas of beauty (my original topic), today I’m writing about a level 2 sex offender in Tacoma destroying the lives of an innocent family. Why?
Take a look at this article, and feel free to swear as you read it.
I’m blogging about this topic because the convicted sex offender in the article, Patrick Rojas, doesn’t want people blogging about him, talking about his crime or sympathizing with his victim. In fact, he is suing his victim’s mother for blogging about the crime he was lawfully convicted of because the things she said were “vengeful.”

In Danielle Schneider’s blog, she shares the story of her daughter’s pain at the hands of Patrick Rojas and his family’s church. She also talks about the alleged crimes of other members of the Rojas family who allegedly fled the country to avoid a witness tampering warrant.
Patrick Rojas wants you to know he has served his time, went to counseling, rehabilitated, and now has a right to a life of privacy….and apparently to a job.

The problem is Mrs. Schneider claims Rojas sexually assaulted her daughter, and a plea agreement reduced Patrick Rojas’ charges to “Communication with minor for immoral purposes” sentencing him to only 10 days in jail and 9 months of treatment.
Take a moment to continue swearing…
What the hell is the matter with our justice system when a child can be assaulted and the exchange rate is a mere 10 days in jail? When the sex offender gets free counseling paid for with our tax dollars, but the victim’s family goes broke trying to pay for hers? And in this same society the victim must stay silent or face a lawsuit by the offender that will force her family into bankruptcy because HE has a right to privacy?
Here’s my personal message to Mr. Rojas…men like you are the reason I won’t let my 13-year- old son walk to 7-Eleven by himself. I don’t care if your sentence was 10 days or 10 years you will never be rehabilitated enough for me to feel safe when you walk through my neighborhood.
There is a reason level 2 sex offenders must register for life. It’s because there is no cure for the special affliction you probably have and you will likely reoffend no matter how much free counseling you have been afforded.
Mrs. Schneider has a right to her outrage and to her personal opinion of her situation. She shared her opinion on her blog with her community because she thought by sharing her story she could help to protect other children from the same tragedy, and begin to reclaim the sense of humanity that was stripped from her family.
If Mr. Rojas was truly rehabilitated he would be willing to face the truth of his crimes and support any method of communication that would begin to heal the wounds he had inflicted. Instead it is no surprise he decided to hurt them more.
Ten days was evidently not enough time for personal reflection. Fortunately along with my right to free speech I also have a few dollars in my wallet to support the Schneider’s cause. I'll probably need it when Mr. Rojas sues me for my blog as well.
Bring it on...
