Finding History Along Your Street

Send me your thoughts of what historical sites in Lakewood should be on the map and what sort of questions about the city's history we can answer.

As the current chairman of Lakewood's Landmark and Heritage Advisory Board and one of the founders of the Lakewood Historical Society, I know local history matters. And that history is not just buildings, but locations, artifacts and people.

That's right, people.

History tells us who we are by showing us where we came from. While Lakewood has its fair share of "gem" historical sites—Fort Steilacoom and Thornewood Castle to name a couple—it also has little spots that could be lost to history if they are not remembered and celebrated.

To that end, the Heritage Board and the Society are working on a few things that will better assist people on their effort to know Lakewood's history. Projects in the works include an online map of the sites around the city that have historical significance and a series of joint ventures. 

And this effort involves you. Send me your thoughts of what sites should be on the map and what sort of questions about the city's history we can answer.
