Game On! Seattle Seahawks Preseason Gets Underway

It didn't take long for the quarterback position to come into question. Is Tavaris Jackson the right man for the Hawks?

If you are like me then you are so happy football is back. With that being said, I'm always reserved about the preseason. It's meant for teams to get up to speed and get a good look at the new acquisitions and rookies. It is also a time for the coaching staff to evaluate players who are fighting for roster spots.

So let’s dive into the Seahawks' first preseason game.

I was impressed with Charlie Whitehurst. He finished 14-for-20 with 115 yards. He also added 13 yards rushing. I could clearly tell that he benefited from the reps, even with a shortened offseason.

The addition of Tavaris Jackson is supposed to help the Seahawks because he's familiar with the offense and Darrell Bevell, the Seahawks new offensive coordinator. It did not seem to help Jackson out at all. We did not get a good look at Jackson, as he was 3-for-5 with 13 yards. He rushed for 12.

He may have suffered from the NFL lockout and the collective bargaining agreement that threatened the upcoming season. Only time will tell if Jackson can  bridge the gap created by the loss of Matt Hasslebeck.

I was impressed with Josh Portis. He completed five passes for 69 yards with a touchdown. Seahawks Head coach Pete Carroll has named Jackson the starter, but from what I've seen thus far I think Carroll needs to let Whitehurst and Jackson compete for the starting job.

This is a new era for Seattle. They are heading in a new direction with a leader at the quarterback position. Keep in mind this was the first preseason game. It's still hard to judge everyone’s performance. But I can't help but feel this is going to be an interesting year.
