More Than Ever, Art Is At Our Fingertips

Need an art fix? Jump online and see what's new around the world.

As the Internet and communications have improved, the world has become a much smaller place. We are easily able to talk to and see people who are thousands of miles away from us, all through the use of amazing machines. As people reach out and connect with each other using many different types of media, ideas and art are shared among other things.

Although I can't say that seeing art online is the same as in person - just like seeing the pyramids in Egypt on Google Earth is definitely not the same as in person - the Internet has broken down financial and physical barriers to allow people to access art and be exposed to new ideas in a way never before experienced.

I have a hard time keeping up with all of the better/faster/sleeker means of communication; many people do. Marketing strategies for a small business require that I learn them - because they are a free way to expose my business, I have to do my best to keep up. Years ago it was creating a website, then a Facebook profile, now Twitter, a blog and Pinterest. However, through all of these processes, I've watched creative people take the technology and manipulate it to their advantage. The marketing industry has created its own subcategory of Online Marketing and artists are hot on the trend.

Not only have artists used this technology as a marketing tool, but they have turned it into an art form itself; manipulating photography, creating computer graphics or uniting traditional painting and drawing with computer based images. Even Photoshop artists who touch up celebrities on magazines have found an art form - isn't it amazing (and a little scary) that they can take an already beautiful person and make them more perfect?

As I said before, there is no replacing an art experience in person. It is a memorable and often emotional experience. Get out into your local neighborhoods and see what the people in your area are creating. But, the next time you're feeling lazy and need an art fix, take a spin around the world on the internet and see what's new in other people's neighborhoods.
