New Art Exhibit Opens at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom
The work of painter Susan Russell Hall will be on display through Dec. 9.
Modern painting is combined with ancient technique in a gallery show featuring the internationally acclaimed painter Susan Russell Hall. The exhibit will be on display at the Pierce College Fort Steilacoom Fine Arts Gallery through Dec. 9.
An artist reception will be held for Hall from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18, in the gallery. Refreshments will be served. The community is invited to attend this free celebration.
Hall’s pieces are in the encaustic medium, which originated in Egypt more than 2,000 years ago.

“It is a time-consuming process in which hot beeswax and pigments are applied to a prepared, reinforced wooden board in multiple layers,” Hall describes on her website. “The beeswax is applied as a hot liquid and the entire surface is heated with a propane torch allowing me to ‘paint with fire.’ Every painting is unique and truly one of a kind.”
The Fine Arts Gallery is located at Pierce College Fort Steilacoom, 9401 Farwest Drive SW, Lakewood. Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. to noon Friday. Admission is always free.
